Classes

Bravo Academy of Performing Arts offers a variety of professional training courses for our students. Classes are designated by department as either Educational or Professional levels. Within each department, classes are further broken down by age groups. Further explanation for each department is listed below.

 

Educational Department

All Educational Department classes meet once a week for 55 minutes. Classes are offered by age group and are available in a variety of skills, from Musical Theatre and Acting, to Tap and Ballet. Educational classes culminate with a final recital performance at the end of the school year.

Musical Theatre*

Summary- Musical Theatre Classes work to put together a short musical medley of songs from Broadway shows, accompanied with high energy dance routines.

Acting**

Summary- Acting Classes work to put together a showcase of monologues and scenes from Broadway and Off-Broadway plays. These classes focus attention on the creation of a character, memorization of dialogue, and the basics of acting.

Dance Technique*

Summary- Dance Technique Classes focus on the various dance styles required for many Broadway shows. This class will learn the basics of styles such as Salsa, Cha Cha, Theatre Dance, Fosse, etc.  These classes will work to put together a medley of dance styles for recital.

Tap

Summary- Tap Classes will focus on the basics of Tap and the technique it requires. Students will spend the year learning proper Tap technique, working to put together a tap routine for recital.

Broadway Babies

Summary- Broadway Babies Class focuses on our youngest performers as they begin to explore the basics of singing, and movement. This class will be broken down into two segments. The first half of class will be spent exploring movement and dance, followed by the second half of class exploring the basics of singing.

Broadway Babies (4-6yrs) with Kara Staiger

Production

Summary- Production Classes will focus on the non-performance elements of putting a show together. This class will spend much of our time learning how to book a venue, market a show, set a rehearsal and performance schedule, and fabricate props and set pieces. There will be an added Materials Fee of $100 per semester.

Playwriting

Summary- Playwrighting Classes will focus on the elements of writing a play, or story. We will learn the basics of Story Structure, Character Building, Character Arcs, etc. This class will spend the year reading, writing, and critiquing plays and musical scripts to learn the ins and outs of writing a great script.

Production History

The legacy and history of the journey of Musical Theatre, from its roots in Opera to the modern Broadway musical spectacular. This class focuses on the evolution of the Modern musical. Topics will cover the early eras of Opera, the transition to the Operetta, and the segue from the Golden Era of Broadway to the modern day.

Private Lessons

All Private Lessons meet once a week for 55 mins. To schedule a Private Lesson or Coaching Session, contact the faculty member you wish to enroll with directly for availability.

Private Acting

Summary- Private Acting Lessons are a one-on-one structure to give each student the opportunity to work closely with one of our Acting Instructors to build the proper Acting technique. Students will work on multiple monologues throughout the year, culminating in a final showcase performance and a working Acting Book, required by every professional actor.

Private Voice

Summary- Private Voice Lessons are a one-on-one structure to give each student the opportunity to work closely with one of our Voice Instructors to build the proper Vocal technique. Students will work on multiple songs throughout the year, culminating in a final showcase performance and a working Audition Book, required by every professional actor.

Private Dance

Summary- Private Dance Lessons are a one-on-one structure to give each student the opportunity to work closely with one of our Dance Instructors to build the proper Dance technique. Students will work on multiple dances throughout the year, culminating in a final showcase performance and a working Acting Book, required by every professional actor. Tap, Ballet, and Theatre Dance styles available.

Private Coaching

Summary- Private Coaching Sessions are available for any student preparing for an audition or performance. These sessions focus primarily on the overall performance of the student. These sessions do not address technique or training. All Private Coaching sessions meet once for 30mins.

 

 

Professional Department

All Professional Department classes meet twice a week for 55 minutes each. Classes are offered by age group and are available by general performance type. Professional classes offer our students the opportunity to take their skills and put them into action as each class will culminate in a final production at the end of the school year. Professional classes meet twice a week and work to put together a full-scale short form production of a Broadway play or musical.

Musical Theatre Performance

Summary- Musical Theatre Performance Classes will work to put together a shortened version of a Broadway musical, including scene work and choreography. These classes require every student to go through the audition process and work together to create fully developed characters, while learning to deal with the higher expectations of being a working actor.

Acting Performance

These classes require every student to go through the audition process and work together to create fully developed characters, while learning to deal with the higher expectations of being a working actor.

Cabaret Performance

Summary- Cabaret Performance Classes will work to put together a Cabaret-style performance, including song and dance routines, and learning to engage with audience members. Students will learn how to choose appropriate materials, write jokes, perform to smaller audiences, and produce their own final Cabaret performance.

Private Voice Lessons are encouraged for Musical Theatre Performance Enrollment.

 

All Parents and Students will be required to sign The Bravo Academy of Performing Arts Parent and Student Agreement during Orientation Week.

Bravo College Prescreen Sessions

Bravo is proud to offer our College Prescreen Audition Sessions. Each student will receive the following.

-3 Private 1 Hour sessions with a Vocal Faculty Member

-3 Private 1 Hour sessions with an Acting Faculty Member

and

-3 Private 1 Hour choreography sessions with a Dance Faculty Member

A Final session will be held in studio with a live Accompanist for Video and Audio recording, and each student will receive a polished College Prescreen Audition video.
